Pavel Pavlovich Muratov (1881-1950) was a writer, historian, curator of the Department of Fine Arts and Classical Antiquities of the Rumyantsev Museum, a fine connoisseur of European culture. The writer worked on the book "Images of Italy" for many years, until 1924, when the final edition was published in Berlin. Since then, all new generations of readers discover Muratov's Italy - "not a theater tragic or sentimental, not a book of memories, not a source of exotic sensations, but the native home of our soul. "Images of Italy" first saw the light of day in 1911-1912, and in 1924 in Berlin published in its final edition. These are brilliant essays, which are both travel notes, and biographies of famous people, and deep reflections on the history and artistic heritage of Italy.
