"Memories of My Past" is an autobiographical account by Archimandrite Tobias (Trofim Tsymbal), abbot of the Holy Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius (1904-1915), a prominent figure of Russian monasticism in the mid-19th and 20th centuries, a man of unusual destiny who rose from a serf to abbot of the first monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church.

In "Memories," he describes the state of the Russian monasteries in which he labored, his encounters with the Moscow saints Philaret (Drozdov), Macarius (Nevsky), the holy martyr Vladimir (Bogoyavlensky), and others; he describes life at the Lavra under its abbots, Venerable Anthony (Medvedev), Archimandrites Leonid (Kavelin) and Pavel (Glebov); and he recalls his meetings with Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich Romanov and the Lavra's benefactors.

The book will be useful for anyone interested in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Holy Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius on the eve of the Revolution.
