The action takes place during the three-year reign of the 84th Doge of Venice, Pietro Loredano (1481-1570), who is one of the minor characters in the novel. It is thanks to this detail that it is possible to establish to what time the events of "The Bride of Venice" refer. In general, the concept of "bride" always conjures up a young fragile vulnerable girl in a white wedding dress, innocent and lovely, defenseless against any danger and trustingly leaning on the strong shoulder of the groom. Venice is a city of not only enchanting beauty, but also known in the Middle Ages for its relentlessness and cruelty, from which it follows that the very title of the novel warns and prepares for something unknown and terrible. The novel is difficult to categorize into any particular genre. It is a mixture of gothic, mysticism, part detective and adventure novel. Accompanied by some grand mystery, and in Venice everything, even the sky overhead, and that carried something mysterious.
