"Pleasures and Days" (1896) is Marcel Proust's debut prose book, a collection of elegant sketches, essays, and short stories in which the author creatively explores the world of aristocratic society at the end of the 19th century. In the preface to the first French edition, Anatole France calls the book "a calendar of Pleasures and Days," which "marks the days of nature with beautiful images of sky, sea, and forests, and the days of man with precise portraits and accomplished genre paintings."

Heterogeneous in length and genre, the works in the collection nevertheless create a sense of profound internal coherence—united by a mood of contemplative melancholy, echoed by Proust's unique epic "In Search of Lost Time," where memories intertwine with the present, and fleeting moments become eternity.
