Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov (1924-2003) - Soviet Belarusian writer and public figure, participant of the Great Patriotic War. He participated in the battles for the liberation of Ukraine and Moldavia; with the active army he traveled through Bulgaria, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Austria. Most of Bykov's works - stories about the Great Patriotic War, which shows the moral choice of man in the most dramatic moments of life. The collection includes novels by Bykov "Sotnikov" (1969) and "Until Dawn" (1972) In 1974, for the story "Obelisk" and "Until Dawn" Bykov was awarded the State Prize of the USSR.
