Immerse yourself in unique Roma folklore, where beautiful kešalii—the daughters of the king of mists—sit on the mountaintops, captivating passing travelers with their gaze. Golden-haired urmas—magical fairies—live there too; by day they dance and frolic in their palaces, and at night they descend from the mountains to determine the fate of newborns. Evil nivashi—water spirits with fiery red hair, long beards, and horse-like hooves—lurk at the bottom of deep rivers. A nivashi delights in nothing more than seizing a person, extracting their soul, and imprisoning them in a pot.

This collection includes Roma beliefs and tales collected by Nikolai Albertovich Kun (1877–1940), author of the renowned books "Legends and Myths of Ancient Greece" and "Tales of the Peoples of Africa." The text is complemented by illustrations by L. M. Alekseevskaya, which were included in the 1922 edition.
