"The Adolescent" is the fourth novel in Dostoevsky's "Great Pentateuch." It was first published in 1875 in the journal "Otechestvennye Zapiski" (Notes of the Fatherland). This work tells the story of a young man desperately trying to find his place in the world. The illegitimate son of a prominent nobleman, Arkady Dolgoruky experiences the hardships of his birth. He yearns for wealth and recognition and becomes immersed in moral conflict. "The Adolescent" is a novel about the contradictions of social norms, the relationships between parents and children, growing up, and love. In this edition, the text of the novel is embellished with color illustrations by the talented artist Maxim Viktorovich Popovsky (1975).
