Norwegian fairy tales are a journey into a world of rugged fjords, dark forests, and snow-capped mountains, where the spirit of ancient Scandinavia is invisibly present. You'll encounter mountain trolls faced with a dangerous prank, and wise men, a princess whose beauty rivals yours. Here, a simple shepherd can overcome a giant, and a resourceful boy can make a deal with the devil and emerge victorious.

These tales were published in the 19th century by Peter Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe, collectors of folk tales and good friends from Christiania (now Oslo). Their names are inseparable from northern Norwegian folklore, just as the Brothers Grimm are from foreign fairy tales.

Translated by Anna and Peter Hansen. The text is embellished with illustrations by Norwegian artists.
