Nikolai Alexandrovich Tarkhov (1871–1930) was one of the most prolific artists of the early 20th century, creating his own distinctive, vibrant, and dynamic style. Having left for Paris in 1899, he unwittingly found himself among the "outsiders-émigrés" whose work, for one reason or another, was suppressed during the Soviet era. Despite his active participation in Russia's artistic life in the 1900s and 1910s, Tarkhov's name was consigned to oblivion for many decades. Only a major retrospective exhibition at the State Tretyakov Gallery in 2003 rediscovered "his deeply truthful, sincere, and beautiful work" (S. Makovsky).

The book features letters and memoirs from the artist's son.

This lavishly illustrated publication is intended for a wide audience of 20th-century art lovers.
