O.F. Berggolts (1910–1975) was a poet and author of memoirs whose voice is inextricably linked with the memory of the siege of Leningrad. The third book in the series, "Olga Berggolts: My Diary," completes the full-text publication of all of the poet's diaries, held in her collection at the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art (RGALI). With rare exceptions, the entries from the post-war years are being published for the first time.
The diaries contain a harsh chronicle of life in the besieged city, a later exposure of the "official lie about the siege," and entries about the dramatic post-war life. They are extremely frank, full of bitterness and pain. Among the contemporaries about whom O.F. Berggolts writes are M.I. Aliger, L. Aragon, A.A. Akhmatova, Yu.P. German, D.S. Danin, A.T. Tvardovsky, D.D. Shostakovich, and others. The publication includes commentary and introductory articles.
