"Martin Eden" - the central, the main work in the work of Jack London. The novel very soon went beyond the author's intention. Private history of the writer became a symbol, an image of the writer's fate, in which there are more hardships than rewards, in which society rejects the creator, if his work is not expressed in monetary terms, and in which even recognition does not bring long-awaited happiness.
The novel has an autobiographical basis and therefore has a special heartfelt and tragic. It is Jack London himself struggled with publishers, received refusal after refusal, demanded payment of royalties. It is he starved, giving all his strength to art. It is he earned money by hard labor at sea and in the steam laundry. He went against all odds and finally found fame and recognition. But what is the price of this victory? Illustrations by St. Petersburg artist Nikolai Lavrukhin were prepared especially for this edition and are published for the first time. Created in the best traditions of realistic drawing, they add additional depth and authenticity to the text.
