This book includes three works by the renowned Don writer Vitaly Zakrutkin, dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War. From August 1942 to February 1943, he participated in the battle against the Nazis on the vast, thousand-kilometer-long Caucasian Front, and as a war correspondent, he visited all its sectors. His collected observations formed the basis for his long chronicle, "Caucasian Notes." The story "Mother of Man" is a paean to Soviet womanhood, one of many heroines of the war, modest and beautiful as we know them and will never forget them. The story "Schoening Castle" recalls the atrocities and crimes of the German occupiers in concentration camps and calls for preventing such events in the future.
