With the end of the last Russo-Persian War of 1826–1828 in Transcaucasia and the staged assassination of our ambassador in Tehran, A.S. Griboyedov, by the British, the period of military confrontation between Russia and Persia ended.

However, the real Great Game (the geopolitical standoff between Russia and England) was still unfolding, and all its major events lay ahead.
