The special formation under the command of Oskar Dirlewanger went down in the history of World War II as one of the most brutal SS units. On the conscience of Dirlewanger's penalized soldiers no less than 60 thousand ruined lives, and the methods used by these soldiers in the performance of their tasks went far beyond the generally accepted norms of human morality and rules of engagement. Dirlewanger's Sonderkommando specialized in fighting partisans and carrying out punitive actions against the civilian population. By suppressing resistance in the occupied territories of the Soviet Union, Poland, and Slovakia and committing heinous crimes, Dirlewanger's subordinates earned themselves the worst reputation. The collection includes unique documents about the activities of Dirlewanger's formation, most of which are published for the first time. The book will be useful to anyone interested in the history of the Great Patriotic War.
