Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was not religious, but always paid great attention to the place of Orthodoxy in the life of the people and each individual. Back in 1904, the famous philosopher and theologian Sergei Bulgakov argued that Chekhov's work "vividly reflected the search for faith, the longing for the higher meaning of life, the restless restlessness of the Russian soul and its aching conscience".
This collection includes stories of the writer, written in different years, but in which to varying degrees trace religious motifs, among them: "On Holy Week", "A Case of Practice" and "The Bishop".
